Posted byRune The End Of Nothing Rarity Lyrics
Here's another post that I originally wrote for my guild. A lot of it might be common knowledge, but you might still learn a thing or two. And as always, comment below on any omissions, inaccuracies, etc.
Today, let's talk about runes in general, and how to know when to keep or sell runes from Giants and Dragons. This is not a guide, it is just my sole opinion on the matter. Expect that my opinion and decisions may vary from yours. Enjoy.
1.) Star Quality
When farming for runes, you will typically find runes between 4 - 6 stars (lower if you running basements below level 8). Outside of Spd, most % based runes at 5 or 6 star are worth considering. Late in the game, 4 stars are NORMALLY useless. Even if you drop a Legendary 4 Star HP% Energy rune with amazing subs, know that it will only get you so far. Your primary goal for a 2/4/6 slot rune is the % based stat (or spd). We'll talk about this later. The main idea is to pretty much sell all 4 star runes.
2.) Rarity
You have different grades of runes. These are color coordinated for easy identification. In case you didn't know;
White: Common (no subs, possible innate sub)
Green: Uncommon (one sub)
Blue: Rare (two subs)
Purple: Hero (three subs)
Orange: Legendary (four subs!!)
I don't have any sources to prove percentages, but just know that you have approximately 85% chance to drop Rare runes, 13% for Hero, and a whopping ~2% chance to get a Legendary grade rune to drop in dungeons (not counting all around reward drops). Add that to the chances of dropping specific star grades, and you truly have yourself stacked against RNG.
Speaking of RNG, the Rare and Hero runes will also add random subs to complete the standard 'four sub' rune structure. Keep this in mind when you're farming your runes. Even if you get a good looking 6 Star Rare or Hero rune, the only thing you can truly rely on is the upgrades on the already present subs. Your last sub or two may end up being totally worthless.
This doesn't mean to sell all Rare runes. Just make damn sure those two subs compliment the rune set or monster. Otherwise, you'll likely end up with an average rune.
3.) Max Rune Stats
This is quick. See below the difference between 5 Star and 6 Star max rune stats for 2/4/6 slots.
5 Star HP%, Def%, Atk% = 51%
6 Star HP%, Def%, Atk% = 63%
5 Star Spd = 39
6 Star Spd = 42
5 Star CR = 47%
6 Star CR = 58%
5 Star CD = 65%
6 Star CD = 80%
5 Star Resist, Acc = 51%
6 Star Resist, Acc = 64%
So what do we gather from this? Your important 2/4/6 6 Star runes are HP%, Def%, Atk%, and CritDmg. The differences in % warrants you to actively search for them and usually show immediate results when replaced with older 4 or 5 Star runes. I don't list CritRate, because I feel that only certain mons (Ahman, Verde, etc.) require these runes.
Also note that 5 Star Spd sub is ideal. It only yields a -3 stat difference and it is quite a bit less costly to max out. However, a 6 Star Spd Legendary rune is worth exploring. I'll touch on that in the next section.
4.) Sub Upgrading
Many of you know that you are granted sub upgrades upon leveling a rune to +3, +6, +9, and +12. This can really make the difference in what may otherwise be a mediocre Legendary rune. Let's take a look at an example.
6 Star Legendary Def% Guard Rune
First Sub: HP% - 7%
Second Sub: Resist - 6%
Third Sub: HP - 135
Fourth Sub: Def - 37
Half of the subs compliment the main stat well enough, whereas the other two are garbage. However, if all of my upgrades go to Resistance and Hp%, it will be a nice sustain rune for a tanky mon. But what could I expect if all of my upgrades went to one of the percentages? Here's a small table for reference. Be warned that these reflect 6 Star grade runes. Upgrade numbers can change based on grade.
Hp%: 4 - 8%
Atk%: 4 - 8%
Def%: 4 - 8%
Spd: 4 - 6 (so low!)
CritRate: 4 - 6%
CritDmg: 4 - 7%
Resist: 4 - 8%
Acc: 4 - 8%
So based on the shitty table above, we can calculate that the best possibly outcome for the HP% sub can be 7% base + (8 X 4) = 39%. Wow! But your chances to attain that is almost incalculable. Why? Because RNG plays a hand not only in where your sub upgrades lie, but also what the increase will be.
Please understand that innate subs CANNOT be upgraded. It is only there as an added bonus to a 4 substat structure.
Just keep this in mind when you think you have an underwhelming Legendary or Hero rune. This also leads us into the next section.
5.) Matching Subs with Rune Sets
Rune The End Of Nothing
This is my take on deciding whether or not I keep a rune. The first is if it has a Spd sub. If so, how much? A +3 spd sub is hardly worth considering, especially on a Rare grade rune. But if all upgrades go into spd, then it might be a keeper. So consider keeping that 6 Star Rare rune if it happens to have a Spd sub.
Rune The End Of Nothing Rarity Movie
Edit: As some have pointed out, Spd is the name of the game in SW. Turn advantage can really be the difference between a win or loss in arena, a successful run or defeat in Giants/Dragons runs, etc.
The second is if it matches your Rune set. It is logical that I would want at least a CritRate sub on my Blade runes. What's the point in putting a Blade rune on your DPSer if you can't supplement that stat to it's fullest? This is very important when considering 6 Star Rare runes. It is hard to sell a 6 Star rune. What makes my decision easier? Does both of the subs compliment my intended build? Does the sub supplement the Rune set?
This is somewhat less important early on when you're finally dropping 6 Star % or Spd runes on 2/4/6. Subs still matter, but you're primary goal is to capture the max potential of that 2/4/6 slot rune (63% HP, 58% CritRate, 42 Spd, etc.).
In your late game play, you will want to heavily scrutinize those subs on your 6 Star 2/4/6 slot runes.
6.) To Sell or to Keep
Taking in the consideration of the info above, you now have a baseline to draw from, in terms of Runes. So now, how do you know when to sell or keep. It should be simple, but i'll give you my opinion.
5 Star Rare = Sell
6 Star Rare = Consider the subs, but probably sell
5 Star Hero = Consider the subs, but probably sell
6 Star Hero = Consider the subs, probably keep
5 Star Legendary = Look hard at those subs, probably keep
6 Star Legendary = Upgrade to +9 and see if you like the sub upgrades
Your inventory will get crammed fast. If you are mindlessly farming runes, you'll probably sell 95% percent of them. For the other 5% percent - instead of just 'keeping' the rune, upgrade it right away. If the subs look good on +3, keep going. +6 and still good? Keep going. Starting to suck at +9? Consider if the prior upgrades have helped. Things totally going south on that rune? Sell it immediately.
THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO MANAGE YOUR RUNES!! If you do this every time, you will easily be able to keep your rune inventory under 250.
Edit: Fixed upgrade ranges on Def%, CritRate, and CritDmg.
